Tina Sweeney
Founder Raised in Montreal moved to Toronto in 1997 to fulfill a passion for ideation and innovation. These ambitions lead her to a jr. sports marketing position and for 10 years her marketing career evolved, from sport to promotion to branding. After a volunteer trip to Tanzania in 2006, Tina was opened to a lifestyle & career change and in 2007 retired from her agency marketing career. After a brief month of volunteering in India, back in Toronto Tina was challenged to find the right fit within the non-profit sector. Continuing along the path of innovation the Act of Love Foundation was created. Tina has many years of volunteering with organizations such as: Big Brother Big Sister, Cross Cultural Solutions, Fundraising for Newcomer Women’s Services, and Free French tutoring.
Tonya Allison Reid
Holds a Masters of Social Science in African Studies from the University of Edinburgh. Before opening le petit dejeuner, a trendy, downtown bistro she co-owns with her husband in 2002, she worked in film and television production as a researcher with stints at both the CBC and NFB. Sitting as a Board member since 2008 she also volunteers.
Debbie Gemmell
Born in suburbs of Toronto and graduated from Humber College with honours in Multi-Media with further education at the school of reality, on the job. Fortunate to have worked for some real go getters who gave of their time and knowledge mentoring me during my years in the stock market followed by consumer sports promotions (where I was fortunate to meet the founder of AoLF) and later at Universal Studios Canada and Cadillac Fairview. I have had the pleasure of working with a variety of charities along the way and although they would tell you how much we helped them I would say I always got back more than I ever gave always learning life lessons in humility.
Pouneh Hanafi
Pouneh Hanafi has over 12 years of experience as a retail executive specializing in Brand Management and Buying. Throughout her career, she has developed and implemented financial and marketing strategies for large Canadian corporations such as Hudson’s Bay Company. As a result of her diverse cultural background and extensive travels to developing countries, she has cultivated a deep passion for social and community work. She is involved with various charitable organizations such as June Callwood Center for Women & Families, Angels in the Night, and Cabbagetown Business Association She is also an active member of Couchiching Institute on Public Affairs.
Ayesha Khan
Has worked in banking her entire career both in a sales and marketing capacity. Currently she is working for RBC in Marketing Strategy. She is responsible for product launches, and marketing strategy. She has a BA from Concordia University with a Specialization in Communication Studies and an MBA from The Richard Ivey School of Business. Ayesha has also has extensive volunteer experience in fundraising. Starting her volunteering at the tender age of 15, she's volunteered for Standard Life, Centraide and Friends of the environment to name a few. She has also volunteered with the Canadian Cancer Society and co-chaired their Relay for Life's inauguration to Canada. Currently, she is volunteering as an advisor for Junior Achievement.
Alison Barnett
Treasurer - was born in Montreal and completed her B.A. at Concordia University majoring in Sociology and French Studies. Alison began her career in the insurance industry in 1996 at Chubb Insurance where she held various roles in both Montreal and Toronto. Alison went onto complete a CIP designation at the Insurance Institute of Ontario and is now employed at Marsh Canada Ltd. Alison has been actively involved in the annual Women in Insurance Cancer Crusade (WICC) fundraising dinner for 7 years and was Treasurer of the annual United Way campaign while at Chubb Insurance.
Nancy Lavalle
CHRP Ms. Lavalle is currently serving as a member of the Board since 2008. Ms. Lavalle graduated from McGill University where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in 1997 and her Certificate in Human Resources Management in 2001. She was admitted to the HRPA of Ontario in 2006.
During her free time, she enjoys taking culture walks, reading fiction, going to the ballet and spending time with her family and friends. She moved to Toronto in 2005 and currently resides in Rosedale.
Anne Vaughan
Secretary - has a background in marketing and communications with an M.A. from the University of Ottawa and a B.Ed. from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador. She lives with her family in downtown Toronto and owns / operates a home health care service for the elderly, Retire-At-Home. Anne worked several years in sport and marketing and has been involved with a variety of community organizations in Toronto and Newfoundland in the areas of sport, business and education. She continues to participate in many local events, most recently with Toronto's East African community.
